The Confused And The Deniers
I’m tired of so-called conscious Black folks glorifying Africa at any cost. In my opinion it should be glorified when justified and criticized when necessary. Africa, the mother of civilization, is rich in culture and resources, but it has its problems. Not standing up and speaking the truth will not solve Africa’s or Black people’s issues, but criticizing and doing nothing will not solve anything either.
You want to say the reason Africa has found herself in the current condition is because of Europeans and Arabs. This has some truth to it
(I tend to agree), but does this justify tribalism and continuous killing of each other. Should we ignore that many current African dictators are stealing their nations wealth, keeping the people in poverty, and their country underdeveloped? I don’t think so. Do you think by ignoring these issues, somehow the issues will disappear?
Africa is most definitely alive, but all is not well. Glorifying it in situations when not warranted won’t make it better. I believe it will make it worse.
On the domestic front, this sh*t in Chicago is f’n ridiculous. Why don’t we stand up and speak truth when it comes to killing each other. Why aren’t WE in the streets when WE are killing and destroying our OWN neighborhoods? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. A four-year-old girl getting shot while sitting in a car is INSANE. Not to mention Nykea Aldridge who was hit by a stray bullet in Chicago while pushing her newborn baby in a stroller. The sad thing this is the current norm, i.e. a part of our culture that we must eradicate. WE NEED TO STOP MAKING EXCUSES. WE ARE DOING THIS TO OURSELVES. Until WE as a people stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, and do something about it, this NARRATIVE will not change.
I commend the Black Lives Matter movement in fighting for justice when it comes to police brutality against Black lives. However we need to protest just as loud about gun violence and murders of Black people in our inner cities that are at the hands of our own (Black people). Eighty-five percent (85%) of the gun violence in Chicago are committed by gangs. If we don’t stand up and speak out against this, then we’re hypocrites and we’re doing a disservice to our own people.
THIS IS FRATRICIDE. MARTIN, MALCOLM, HUEY, AND MEDGAR, DIDN’T DIE FOR THIS SH*T. IT IS TIME TO PUT THE CULPRITS IN OUR OWN COMMUNITY ON THE STAND.
I’m sick of the excuses. For some of you being Black is an excuse. We have excuses for everything.
Getting and promoting an education is a must. Instead of just running out and buying the latest big name sneakers (tennis shoes), and the newest XBOX, buy your children some books, and promote reading. If you’re not equipped to go to college or university, learn a trade. Variety of skills is necessary when a nation is being developed. This is why we must educate and give back. This provides a support system and foundation for success. When I say educate, I mean something that can be used in a capitalistic society. That means formal education or learning a trade or skill, if you’re not college material. Cultural education should be complementary to formal training. By saying complimentary I’m not diminishing its importance. Cultural education and learning your history should be obligatory.
We should promote entrepreneurship because codependency is a death trap. We also must create our success, and not wait on anybody else. We that are successful, need to go back into our communities, and work with our youth from a young age. The organizations that we have must get off their butts, and really do something for the community. Last but not least, we need to be more active on a grassroots level, politically, when it comes to local politics. We must start holding politicians accountable for what they are not doing for us while they’re in office. Furthermore, we should not let politicians, Black or White, take us for granted. So mote it be!
